Issue 2 Out Now

The Sideways Journal is a celebration of adventures and misadventures.
More of a scrapbook than a polished literary journal, each copy is made by hand, with torn edges, spelling mistakes and misprints included.
We publish handwritten work that's immediate and evocative; as close to living as possible. We'll always favour an honest ramble over perfectly curated prose.

'Bin-Diving' written by Will Allingham & illustrated by Ellis Tudor

The journal is also a celebration of our right to speak and move freely - a right that should be universal. For that reason, a portion of proceeds from each issue will go to a charity which helps people do exactly that.
We're sending 10% of proceeds from issue 2 to Bake For Ukraine.
The non-profit was founded on 26th February 2022, just two days after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Ukraine provides 7-12% of the world’s wheat supply. The ongoing invasion has not only jeopardised this part of the global food network but has made basic food supplies very scarce for civilians.
Olga Graf, Lena Vorozheykina and Maria Kalenska started the charity with the aim of feeding Ukrainians and protecting the nation’s bread culture.
Through their growing volunteer network, the team supply essential ingredients and equipment, and pay baker’s salaries, as well providing bread and baking lessons in their mobile bakery.
Their first loaves were baked in long-term supporter, Florian Domberger’s mobile bakery. The team have now acquired their own unit which moves around front line towns and villages, providing bread and tuition even during power outages.
